Can hemp help the environment?

The Green Lantern

Though hemp can be used to make many different products, there is a large controversy over the use of the plant. Legally, hemp is practically identical to marijuana. Many hemp advocates argue that the two have a visible difference, but the common person probably won't be able to tell the difference between the two plants. Though hemp can be used in such a versatile way, the Stockholm Environment Institute conducted a test in 2005 to see if hemp was more eco-friendly than cotton and polyester. Interestingly enough, hemp did not come out on top as most presumed. Hemp was a little easier on the environment than  cotton and polyester, but not enough to truly make a case out of it. It makes you wonder whether people are arguing for it in order to keep our environment in tact or just so they can get away with growing marijuana. I guess you can argue that hemp is extra important for vegans who can't really get omega-3's in their diet, but they have many products out there created just for them with hemp. If the government is to allow individuals to grow hemp, then they are opening the door for people to grow marijuana. Many use the drug anyway although it is illegal, and if they allow common individuals the right to grow hemp, they might as well legalize marijuana as well. It would be a lot easier to get away with. I'm pretty "green" when it comes to the way I live, but if the use of hemp isn't going to significantly aid our environment, then there is no need to use that over cotton and polyester.

Phony Doctors

Pregnancy Counseling

There are many instances when I think people take their beliefs way too far. This is one of them. I understand that there are many people out there who actively protest abortion, but when you create a fake medical clinic where you give people fake advice and facts about abortion just to talk them out of it, you might need some counseling yourself. I've always been a little iffy on the topic of abortion because there are so many situations where I just can't help but to say that it would be OK for the girl to go through with it. Yes, girl was used purposely. It's so sad to see young girls get raped then become pregnant. What's even sadder is that they are sometimes forced to raise these children. This is not to say that the children were mistakes or regrets or accidents, etc. but rather that these young girls are unable to truly take care of their well-being. They have no education (because most have to drop out of school) and no income because most don't have time to work. These girls should not be forced to accept the responsibilities that they did not choose for themselves. On the other hand, those who just use abortion as another form of contraception are completely mistaking its purpose. Back to my main point of this whole thing, regardless of your belief you should not falsify information in order to persuade people that your view is right. People should be allowed to make their own decisions and in certain situations you may not agree with what they have chosen, but if you truly understood every aspect of why they made that choice then may be you would. Rather than creating phony clinics to persuade women not to have an abortion, they should have created counseling centers to help these women through the decision making process without passing judgment.

At the Jersey Shore

Jersey Shore Re-cap

It's sad to see that people are most interested in finding out what's going on with Sammi and Ronnie's relationship than what is happening throughout the world. I guess it's entertaining the first time around, but the same thing happens in each episode. They hit the gym, go to the club, Sammi and Ronnie fight and makeup several times, and Snookie gets drunk. I'm sure that if our generation spent more time studying than watching or even creating/producing a show like that we might find a cure to cancer. It's the same with all of those reality TV shows. People live crazy, drama-filled lives and everyone needs to know what's going to happen next week as if it's their best friend going through it. I don't know who these people are and I certainly don't care if they break up or make up with their significant other, get arrested, or the like. I'm not going to lie though, if someone paid me thousands of dollars to put me on TV I would do it in a heartbeat....of course my life would not be as interesting. They would see me go to school and then work, and then back to school....yeah, that show would be cancelled pretty quickly.
Anyway, my whole point is that even magazines are giving re-caps in case people missed the latest episode of whatever reality show they missed. Since when is it ok to just sit around, party, and "look good" rather than actually work to make a living? It's funny that people would actually be willing to strive harder in order to party than to make a decent living. It would be impossible for our world to move towards greater innovations without succeeding at what we do, yet people are willing to give it all up to lay back and look "cool."
